To be a patient parent in real-life situations, the key is to separate your child’s behavior from the context of the situation. Often, parental impatience stems from external stressors rather than solely the child's actions. For example, imagine a morning where you slept through your alarm and are rushing to get kids ready for school. If your kindergartener then spills milk, your reaction might be amplified not by the spilled milk itself, but by the pre-existing stress of being late. This scenario highlights that other stressors often contribute to losing patience, rather than just the child's behavior. Reflecting on such situations can reveal whether it was the child's action or the surrounding circumstances that truly triggered your impatience.
